As Guidance Counselor, I also serve as the Chapter Adviser for the National Junior Honor Society here at Holy Cross.
The National Junior Honor Society Chapter at Holy Cross Academy has a monthly meeting and our members serve in a variety of capacities in our school community. Students in the NJHS are expected to uphold the standards of Scholarship, Citizenship, Character, Leadership, and Service.
New Inductions for the NJHS take place in March. Any student in 7th grade that has maintained an average of 93 or better will be invited to apply to the NJHS. Inductions are decided by the faculty council. Invitations to apply go out following the second marking period. Members are selected by a faculty council who grants induction based on the applicant's ability to demonstrate the five pillars. Academics are only one criteria for induction.
If a student's average falls below a 93 after they are inducted into NJHS, parents and students alike will receive a warning. Students are given one marking period to pull up their average. If the student is unable to raise their grades to the required 93 average they may be removed from NJHS. The faculty council of the NJHS will vote to remove a member from the NJHS. They can also remove students for for offenses like cheating or getting in serious trouble at school.
